Italy & Spain. Travel Photography

As you may or may not know, my wife and I recently took a vacation to Rome, Italy and Barcelona, Spain.  The word "amazing" does not begin to describe it.  We had such a fantastic time.  Rome is now my favorite place in the world.  If you look back a couple posts on my blog, you can see the roll of film I shot while in Rome... well, here's the digital photos I shot.  I seriously narrowed this down as much as was humanly possible.   Enjoy.

St. Peter's Basilica, the most impressive church I've ever seen

We actually found the Pantheon by accident. A happy accident

One of my favorite things about Rome is all the amazing little side streets to just wander down with little agenda, so much charachter

I should note that Meg took this photo

a Panoramic of the Roman Forum from Palentine Hill.  If you look at the top right of the image, you can see the Colosseum

I know this and a few of the following photos are a bit cliche... but I could not resist, and I think they came out pretty cool.  How do you not shoot photos of the Colosseum all lit up at night?

So many ruins all over the city, and lit up at night.

Trevi Fountain.  It is said that if you turn your back to the fountain and throw a coin in, you are guaranteed to return to Rome.  You better believe we did that

Meg took this photo to show me the ridiculous face I make when I take photos.  I can't believe no one has pointed this out before.

This just struck me as so European.

Nearly every story I have from Italy ends with "and then we got gelato."  It was so good and the Gelaterias were all over the place.

Our flight from Rome to Barcelona was delayed five hours.  This is Meg in the airport about 3 hours in.

La Segrada Familia, a very cool church that I guess is constantly under construction.

A very cool neighborhood in Barcelona, reminded me of Rome.

If you find yourself in Barcelona, stop in a small shop and get yourself a Nuetella crepe or waffle or both, they are fantastic.

See? don't they look good?

Seriously, such an amazing trip.  So many nice people, great food, and unbelievable sights.  I did prefer Rome, not that Barcelona wasn't fun, but I don't think it can compare to the Eternal City.

Welcome to the new blog

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the new Dennis Pike Photography Blog.  I'm very excited about this.  I have been working on the new website and new blog for quite a while now.  I must say I am very happy with the results.  This also explains my absence from blogging lately.  So close to having a new blog I just couldn't bring myself to posting all this awesome new content on the old blog.   So now that everything is up and running, expect a far more frequent blogging schedule.  Among the things that are coming up we have a vacation to Italy and Spain, a new nephew!!!  and of course a lot of great wedding photos.  Enjoy.

New Announcement 1 of 2

I have been talking about things in the works for a while, and now it's time to deliver... half of it anyway. If you look up at the top, you may noticethe logo is a little different. But there's a lot more than that. Please, go check out the new and vastly  improved Dennis Pike Photography I have been working on the new website for a while, longer than I initially intended, but that's how things go. New website, new logo, LOTS of new images to check out.  So please, go check it out.  http://www.dennispikephoto.com/

Part 2 of 2 is coming soon.  and it's going to the blog...

Italy on film

My life has been insane as of late.  As you may, or may not know.  My wife and I recently took a trip to Italy and Spain.  And it was beyond amazing.  While there, aside from the hundreds, possibly thousands of digital images.  I shot a roll of B&W film.  It was all shot on a Pentax K1000 with a 50mm f/2 lens. This was the camera I first started playing with as a child, trying to figure out what all the numbers dials and buttons did.

Anyway, I decided to post some scans of the film.  As with my current editing schedule, I will not have to opportunity to get to the digital photos for god knows how long.  These are straight scans, no Photoshop or Lightroom adjustments.  Enjoy, and keep your eyes peeled for a new announcement, that I'm really hoping to not push off much longer.

I should note... these were all shot in Rome.  I ran out of film by the time we got to Barcelona.  Rome was better anyway.

Big Things in the Works

I have been a little M.I.A. recently, I know.  There is a very good reason for this.  A few, actually.  First off, winter is a bit of a slow time for wedding photography in the North East.  I don't know why, the weather has been nothing but wonderful the the North Jersey area.  Who wouldn't want to get married in 2 feet of snow with the wind blowing 40 mph and a wind chill of 10?  That being said, things kick into high gear in about two weeks and don't really stop for quite a while.  This is going to be an awesome year.

Second.  I have been working on some new things, they are not quite ready to be revealed as of yet, but suffice to say, Dennis Pike PHotography is going to look a whole lot different (and a whole lot better) very soon.  There will be a large unveil soon.  Don't have an exact date as of yet, but I'm hoping to have everything live before I leave for Italy and Spain (mid march)  Stay tuned... I promise, it'll be worth it.
